fickeleness and cats

Category: General | Date: May 14 2008 | By: Seamus

Here is an interesting story. The short video clip that features lions, a crocodile, some buffalos, a wonderfully typical south african safariguide accent and a tourist with a hand-held video cam. It went to Youtube and apparently was viewed about 30 million times. Now it is to be the subject of a National Geographic documentary. A wonderful example of the tail wagging the dog I think. That is to say, the international internet audience more or less dictating to Natgeo what they would like to see.

By the way, WD is getting their house in order and would like you to fill out a survey. Click on the icon below if you have a moment.

…or probably, more pertinently, National Geographic finally meeting the asking price on underlying broadcast and distribution rights on that unique footage (”in perpetuity in all media.”) Be interesting to see how long it remains on Youtube now. It pays to advertise.

Seamus, I finally watched this video…predation scenes are hard to watch. But that is their reality, the daily struggles all wildlife incur. More the reason to protect them all from the added pressures of poaching, snares, poison, and loss of habitat.

THIS HAS GOTTEN WORLD WIDE ATTENTION AND I THINK THAT IS A GOOD THING! IT IS LIFE IN THE WILD AS IT SHOULD BE.

Hey Seamus, made a small donation tonite towards your work. Best I can do on a nurse’s salary but I wish it could be more. Take care, Theresa

Awsome vid. Seamus Are u married?

Seamus, on 16 May 2008

Hi Theresa,
Thanks for doing that. I’ve just got into the office from a long day in the field. Much to show and tell, but it will have to wait for another day or so, while I catch up.

I know you read many of the WD blogs, and contribute… your efforts are appreciated.

Megan, thats an interesting question. Especially as the Megan that asked precisely the same question yesterday is, by the looks of the IP addresses, an entirely different Megan. Multiple marriage-enthused Megans? Refer to my answer to the other Megan on the previous post for your answer.

NP - yes. I’ve had some up-close and personal encounters with the natgeo animal. I even greviously insulted a senior NG representative recently but he took it very well. After i managed to get my feet out of my mouth we felt it would be great if NG could support my work. Lao Tsu and all that stuff about fighting the dragon, becoming the dragon etc.

Seamus , God knows why I posted under Nonplussed; it’s that browser auto fill-in thingy… I don’t think media folk can be insulted they’re so brazenly grasping and shameless/wise, generous and reflective/thieving lowlifes… Oops! There goes that auto suggest thing again… Must get my computer fixed…

Wim - I have two words to describe the affliction you and I seem to have: Digital Tourette’s.

…with a side-order of emotional bulimia.
