Video: Is that a leopard, or is it a lion cub?
A few people have asked about the striking on young lions. This is a minute long video in which I mentioned the spots on young cubs. I’m not sure what the evolutionary advantage is to young lions having spots. It might be that as they get older their ideal camofluage would be tawny, rather than mottled. Perhaps because they would hunt more in open savanna as they get older, rather than hiding in thick bush, as cubs do.

Are you sure that Mummy Lion hasn’t been up to mischief with the cheeky leopard who delivers the post on Sunday’s??
If I were the Daddy Lion of these young cubs - I would seriously consider looking into how friendly they are …..
Great little video, thanks. I love seeing lion cubs with their spots. I never knew about the spots until the National Zoo got a younger male last year. He still had a few spots the first time I saw him.
